Acute Stroke Management in the Era of Thrombectomy de Edgar A. Samaniego,David Hasan
Descripción - Reseña del editor ?This book contains a compilation of the revolution of mechanical thrombectomy (MT) in the treatment of strokes. The initial chapters summarize information about the best medical management of acute ischemic stroke, imaging modalities and patient selection for MT. The book then focuses on the nuances of MT, providing detailed information about the best approaches for anesthesia during MT, access, intra-arterial thrombolysis, recent devices and catheters and technical pitfalls of MT. A specific chapter is dedicated to MT in the venous system. This is followed by a chapter about the most common complications of MT and post-procedural care of these patients. The last chapter covers different aspects of acute stroke care and MT in the developing world. The authors of this book comprise of a multidisciplinary group of world experts in the field and were encouraged to include teaching cases to deliver a book with a practical approach.Acute Stroke Management in the Era of Thrombectomy is intended for all healthcare providers who care for patients with stroke; with special emphasis for the proceduralists who are interested in technical tips to improve outcomes and minimize complications. Complications of endovascular treatment for acute ischemic ~ Both neurointerventionists and stroke specialists need to be aware of the risk factors, strategies for prevention, and management of these complications. With the increasing use of mechanical thrombectomy for the treatment of acute ischemic stroke, incidence and outcome of complications will need to be carefully monitored by stroke teams.
Acute Stroke Management in the Era of Thrombectomy ~ Acute Stroke Management in the Era of Thrombectomy is intended for all healthcare providers who care for patients with stroke; with special emphasis for the proceduralists who are interested in technical tips to improve outcomes and minimize complications.

Clinical Commissioning Policy: Mechanical thrombectomy for ~ 22%) among those undergoing mechanical thrombectomy compared with controls (Bush et al., 2016, Marmagkiolis et al., 2015, Lambrinos et al., 2016, Touma et al., 2016, Anonymous, 2016). This suggests that for every 4 to 6 patients undergoing thrombectomy following stroke, one more will be able to function independently at 90

Imaging-Based Management of Acute Ischemic Stroke Patients ~ Advances in imaging-based management of acute ischemic stroke now provide crucial information such as infarct core, ischemic penumbra/degree of collaterals, vessel occlusion, and thrombus that helps in the selection of the best candidates for reperfusion therapy. It also predicts thrombolytic efficacy and benefit or potential hazards from therapy.

REFERENCES - UpToDate ~ Mechanical thrombectomy is indicated for patients with acute ischemic stroke due to a large artery occlusion in the anterior circulation who can be treated within 24 hours of the time last known to be well (ie, at neurologic baseline), regardless of whether they receive intravenous alteplase for the same ischemic stroke event, as discussed in the sections that follow.
